RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

This position will assist/support the continued deployment of Lean & Six-Sigma Process Improvement tools/methodologies within Supply Chain Management. Duties will include: teaching internal classes; supporting and mentoring process improvement projects, both internal and supplier-led; leading internal process improvement projects; and assisting in the Six Sigma certification process. An incumbent is an experienced Engineer, fully competent to perform most Engineering tasks and responsibilities and under general direction: Provides engineering expertise and knowledge to the design of systems, components, structures, and processes. Collects and analyzes technical data for design or feasibility studies. Evaluates performance and life cycle operational requirements and develops engineering design to meet customer requirements. Prepares layouts and specifications; reviews design proposals and drawings; and assures that specifications meet performance requirements. Provides engineering expertise to the development of technical specifications, requisition and bid documents, inspection and testing requirements, etc., to area of responsibility. Applies specialized engineering knowledge and training to analyze and resolve design and production issues. Plans testing operations. Evaluates and prepares test program policies and procedures to test and control ship systems and components; ensuring successful integration of the test program with production activities. Plans and prepares test procedures, which contain testing instructions, requirements and sequences, ensuring compliance with contract specifications, military specifications, system diagrams, equipment drawings, etc. Writes or revises test policies and procedures to control testing and system operations. Directs shipboard testing performed by hourly or salaried non-exempt technicians. Monitors the performance of tests and provides engineering expertise to the identification and resolution of system operational issues. Analyzes test data and applies engineering expertise to determine operational conditions and design appropriateness. Works collaboratively with design engineers to resolve design issues. Provides on-site resolution of engineering problems encountered during construction. Investigates problems incurred during testing and operations, resolves problems, and directs re-tests to ensure the satisfactory performance of the system.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

 

2 or more years Engineering experience (if candidate has more than 5 years of exp. we will adjust the job title and pay accordingly). Six Sigma certification (Certification as a Six Sigma Black Belt are highly desired). Requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Marine, or Metallurgical) from an ABET-accredited program. Effective oral and written communication skills, in addition to teaching/facilitation skills, are essential. An advanced degree is desirable. Knowledge/expertise and certification in Lean Manufacturing tools/methods are desired. A candidate must be able to apply a well-rounded understanding of engineering/design specifications, and engineering principles and methods, to perform engineering analysis and resolve engineering problems of moderate complexity. The nature of this work requires the exercise of a specialized body of knowledge (professional engineering or naval architecture discipline), and independent discretion and judgment. Preferred candidate with 3 years experience with the following: Shipbuilding, one-on-one Communication, Attention to Detail, Customer Relations, Oral Communication, Problem Resolution, Written Communications, Engineering and Teamwork. Education Level: Any Bachelors degree. Up to 30% travel time may be required within the US.
