RESPONSIBILITIES: Analyze customer's Digital Product Definitions, drawings, specifications, and P.O. requirements for implementation into the composite manufacturing process and provide technical support for / lead engineering efforts with the Manufacturing Department and the customer. Develop and conduct research studies regarding process improvement and cost reduction. Determine test procedures, manpower requirements, equipment, tooling, schedules and overall cost. Supervise work performed, summarize results and prepare reports as required. Give technical presentations to staff and customers as required. -Prepare fabrication strategy and instructions with detailed illustration, which prescribe a logical sequence of action in clear and concise language that can be used both by the Manufacturing personnel for production and the customer for hardware acceptance. Lead production personnel through development parts (Pre Part Manufacturing (PPM)), to validate composite manufacturing processes. Using NDI techniques (c-scan, a-scan, and x-ray) to validate composite manufacturing cure process. Looking for (porosity, un-bonds, and delaminating). Conduct critical design and performance reviews and final validation. Prepare estimates and recommendations for bids and proposals. Work with tooling department to conceptualize tooling designs, trim fixtures, lay up tools, formulate design calculations, and design to cost to meet rate. Create BOM's (Bill of Materials) needed and calculating quantities to support purchasing. Leading an IPT (Integrated Product Team) team through the qualification requirement, to implement a new manufacturing process. (Thermal Profile Plan (TTP), NDI standards, Pre Part Verification Plan (PPV), First Part Qualification (FPQ) Work with cure department, on understanding ways to optimize your autoclave cure, to better your cycle time, and fix tooling or process issues. Work with machine group and programming, to support 5-axis, or water-jet needs. Leading an IPT team from hand lay-up techniques, into an Automation approach of composite manufacturing. Using ATL, Hot Drape Forming, and Fiber Placement. Other duties may be assigned. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies: Design - Understand drawing and Technical Specification requirements and coordinate the implementation of requirements through to the Composite Manufacturing process. Work is planned in terms of objectives requiring project planning and judgment based on extensive and broad knowledge. This requires creativity to resolve complex issues. The Engineer IV acts as a technical authority and may have overall project responsibility. Define manufacturing approach: tool function, laminating development, bagging techniques, autoclave curing, trimming, and inspection. Ability to troubleshoot process development trials. Ability to create a Bill of Materials. Experience with qualification process spec BAC 5578 & BAC 5317 is a plus. Experience in writing qualification documents: (TTP, NDI, PPV, FPQ). Ability to design/ fabricate NDI defect standards, and work with level III NDI technicians to develop technique sheets. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have working knowledge of MS Office and engineering software (e.g. CATIA V, CAD and MRP systems). EDUCATION: Bachelor of Science in Engineering or industrial science and 5-15 years of experience in advanced composite technology or equivalent combination of education and experience related to the aircraft / aerospace industry with 6 years of mechanical engineering experience.
