- Chipton Ross is seeking a HSE Specialist for an opening in Costa Mesa, CA
The Health Safety Environment Specialist is responsible for supporting the facility in Costa Mesa, California. This person will support operational safety initiatives and committees to ensure full implementation and consistent execution of Safety Programs. The HSE Specialist will audit safety performance, interface with operations team and support other departments within HSE. Additionally this role will interact with operations leaders to ensure safety and operations strategies are properly integrated and implemented. The HSE Specialist must effectively control accident and health exposures in the company and minimize OSHA violations.
Performs daily management of HSE process requirements on the manufacturing shop floor. Makes routine facility walkthroughs and safety inspections to determine if safe work practices are being deployed. Leads the HSE employee engagement efforts, encouraging the submittal of and gathering employee HSE observations. Reducing risk throughout the manufacturing floor working with employees and management by performing risk assessments. Investigates accidents and assists with completion of accident report forms when required; Assist HR with worker's compensation if needed, mitigating risks, and implementing corrective actions. Maintains safety/accident records, HSE observations, first aids, deviations and near miss records Organizes, supports and helps lead the site Safety Committee and Green Team. Plans, coordinates or performs all safety training and testing given to employees. Advises employees and management personnel on the interpretation of HSE policies, programs and procedures. Support and participate in HSE training programs for the site, actively work with site management to mature site's corporate HSE Standards, perform site inspections and provide support to ensure inspection findings are closed per requirements. Provide technical and regulatory HSE support for site and lead cooperative efforts with operations team to ensure site achieves all safety metrics. Develops and proposes improvement to policies, programs and procedures to improve the effectiveness of HSE resources and operations. Work effectively with HSE Standards and Sponsors. Assist with hazardous waste management, air quality permitting and waste water documents. Other duties may be assigned.
Must possess the ability to run and analyze reports and data.
Requires proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access).
Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
Must be capable of multi-tasking.
Demonstrate common knowledge of managing worker's compensation program.
Energetic, self-starter with knowledge and proficiency in HSE trends and practices
Knowledge of Cal OSHA & EPA regulations
Knowledge of FAA, emergency action plans and building safety
Knowledge of hazardous materials
Basic chemical knowledge skills
Ability to handle IT and paper information
Writing (procedures, emails to customers or suppliers)
IT skills: office tools
Ability to work closely with the facilities department
Ability to identify and implement improvement initiatives

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Occupational or Industrial Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, or related field, and 1-3 years of health, safety, environmental experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
HazMat certification preferred.
OSHA 30 Hour certification preferred
