Chipton-Ross is seeking a Packaging Engineer for a contract opportunity in Dallas, TX>

This position is 100% onsite.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):
You must have the ability to obtain a secret clearance.
Knowledge of shipping practices and procedures and inspection requirements. Knowledge of Company, vendor and customer shipping documents, forms, and other paperwork.
Ability to use the Company purchase request and other applicable computer systems.
Knowledge of appropriate handling and packaging procedures and Federal Department of Transportation regulations as they relate to hazardous materials.
Ability to apply knowledge of MSDS in order to receive, inventory and identify hazardous materials.
Ability to operate transportation carrier, computerized shipping meters, label makers and shipment pricing devices.
Ability to read blueprints.
Ability to use strapping, cutting and carton-making machines, and processing equipment such as spray guns and brushes, electric or motor-powered material moving carts, floor-controlled cranes and hoists, weighing and counting scales, power saws, hand tools and portable drills.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Develop Special Packaging Instructions required as support documentation to obtain Initial Hazard Classification, procure or fabricate packaging, and execute packaging and shipment of hardware.
o Plan and conduct Performance Oriented Packaging Testing and Reporting. Task includes preparing test plan, coordinating with testing facility, observing testing, gathering result data, and completing test report
o Program Packaging Support. Includes coordinating with shipping departments, working on identifying required packaging, interfacing with regulatory agencies, and supporting program packaging questions and meetings.
o Ensuring all Packaging, Handling and Storage (PHS) program/technical reviews are scheduled and conducted.
o Ensuring provisions for efficient and economical protection for all system materiel are defined.
o Develop initial packaging and packing required to ship system equipment to support test flights, ground tests, Logistic Demonstration and System Support Package requirements will be best commercial packaging utilizing procedures outlined in American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) D 3951. Preservation and packaging methods and designs will be of minimum cost consistent with the protection required.
o Ensure all system hardware identified by System Safety as hazardous or dangerous materials will be packaged, packed, marked and labeled as required by Department of Transportation (DOT) Regulations. MFC maintains current copies of DOT regulations for all modes of shipment.
o Planning and ensuring Performance Oriented Packaging (POP) testing requirements will be complied with for all hazardous materials shipped by test reports will be developed in contractor format for hazardous materials identified per 49 CFR.
o POP Test reports will be prepared and submitted in accordance with Data Item Description (DID)-1030. Hard copy will be submitted for DOT container certification and copies made available to other Customer agencies via the Contractor Integrated Technical Information Service (CITIS).
o Conducting analysis of handling equipment requirements will ensure adequate facilities and equipment for handling system hardware will be available at storage depots and installations that will handle system materiel. Handling equipment requirements will be monitored throughout the program and every effort will be made to limit new requirements.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE:
o Packaging Engineering degree
o Strong technical background
o Mechanical Computer Aided Drawing (MCAD) skills. CREO preferred
o PTC Pro/E skills
o Strong technical background
o Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
o Strong interpersonal skills, ability to build effective working relationships and be able to work well in a team atmosphere.
o Be flexible with an outstanding work ethic and possess the ability to respond quickly to internal and external customer requirements
o Candidate must be willing to work onsite, overtime and int. travel as needed to support program requirements
o Candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills, technical writing experience, and an ability to perform oral presentations in front of large groups
o Hazardous Materials transportation and shipping regulation knowledge
o Familiar with Military specifications/standards
o Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) knowledge
o Familiarity and experience working with Code of Federal Regulations Title 49 (Parts 171-180)
o Familiarity and experience working with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Technical Instruction for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air, or the International Maritime Organization's International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code (IMDGC) based on the modes of shipment.
o Familiarity and experience working with commercial packaging in accordance with ASTM D 3951 that allows for storage in enclosed facilities for one (1) year without damage to the hardware.
o Product Data Management software and workflow process familiarity
