Chipton-Ross is seeking multiple Industrial Hygiene Technician 3's for a contract opportunity in Newport News, VA.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):
NNS apprentice certificate, Associate's degree in a related field and 3 years relevant experience; high school diploma and 5 years of additional education and/or experience.
Special Requirements:
o Bachelor of Science Degree in an Occupational Safety, Physical Science, Life Science, or Engineering field.
o Ability to interpret and enforce legal standards.
o Ability to work independently with technical instruments.
o Ability to physically maneuver on ships wearing hard hat, safety glasses, safety boots, hearing protection, respirator, enter confined spaces.
o Respirator Qualified.
o Confined Space Entry Qualified.
o Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or Graduate Safety Professional (GSP).
o Previous experience with industrial hygiene and / or occupational exposure sampling.
o Previous experience interpreting and enforcing legal standards.
PPE: Hardhat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel toe work shoes.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Implements and monitors industrial safety programs to ensure personnel and facility safety. Participates in monitoring and controlling the organization's safety standards in accordance with OSHA and State codes and regulations. Evaluates new equipment and materials for safety. Monitors employee exposure to chemicals and other toxic substances. Performs surveys and inspections to ensure compliance with the organization's policies, procedures, regulations and standards related to employee safety. Tests and services safety equipment and systems. Reports non-compliance or hazardous conditions found and suggests remedial action to be taken. May maintain storage areas, consumable supply inventories, and personnel protection equipment. Responds to emergency situations involving hazardous materials, radiation, or fire and smoke incidents in the facility.
Conducts health program in industrial plant to recognize, eliminate, evaluate and control occupational health hazards or environmental factors or stresses arising in or from the workplace or facility that may cause sickness, impaired health or well-being, or significant discomfort and inefficiency among workers or citizens of the community. Works under the supervision of a more senior staff member.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):
o Previous experience in shipbuilding environment a plus.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent is required.
School must be accredited.

WORK HOURS:
5/40 workweek. Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm.

MISCELLANEOUS:
Applicants responding to this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements by currently possessing the ability to view classified government information.

Employment will be contingent on clearing a drug screen and background check. Both must clear prior to start date.
