Chipton-Ross is seeking a Technical Editor 2 for a contract opportunity in Elkridge, MD.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):
For level 2:
- Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field, 2-5 years’ technical editing experience.
- Minimum 1-2 years’ experience in creating and modifying templates, style sheets, and formats.
- Experience with structured (HTML, SGML, or XML, and S1000 or DITA) content.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
- Knowledge of Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE 100) specification.
- Self-motivated with good problem solving and organization skills.
For level 3:
- Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field, 5-10 years’ technical editing experience, 3 years’ experience with Master’s.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in creating and modifying templates, style sheets, and formats.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience editing page-based and structured (HTML, SGML, and XML, and S1000D and DITA) content.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Experience with structured technical data.
- Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
- Excellent problem solving and organization skills.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Edit technical documents to ensure compliance with spelling, grammar and punctuation, style, layout and specification requirements.
- Collaborate with task/team leads, writers, engineers, and instructors, to publish and deliver documents.
- Develop templates based on style guides to adhere to military specifications and standards of technical writing.
- Perform Desktop Publishing tasks for all program technical data products and publish materials in hardcopy and electronic formats.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience with structured authoring applications, such as: MadCap, FrameMaker, or Arbortext.
- Experience with Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE 100).
- Member of the Society for Technical Communicators (STC).
- Ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI).
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
Bachelor's Degree is required. School must be accredited.WORK HOURS:
Part time - hours to be determined. 100% On-Site. Hours may vary between 15 - 20 hours per week.
MISCELLANEOUS:
Applicants responding to this position will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements by currently possessing the ability to view classified government information.Employment will be contingent on clearing a drug screen and background check. Both must clear prior to start date.
