Chipton-Ross is seeking a Software Engineer for an opening in Eugene, OR.

We are searching for a talented DevOps/Software Engineer to continue to enhance our existing build environment and tools. You’ll work with our team of software architects to propose, develop, and optimize build configurations over a variety of platforms. You will also design and migrate our existing on-premise build system to a distributed and scalable AWS solution.

Your strong software engineering skills will be used to architect and implement build and development tools for our international team of software and firmware engineers. In this work you will also be responsible for developing and maintaining meaningful build and project monitors and metrics. We’ll use your attention to detail and understanding of objective measurements and baseline comparisons to provide systematized project health checks.

Work as part of an international team to improve our existing build environment and continue to push this process to be an even more efficient CI/CD pipeline. Own the DevOps roadmap and be responsible for earlier identification of futures costs. Design and implement a migration plan of our existing build environment to a distributed and scalable AWS solution. Perform static code analysis with weekly reports using technology such as SonarQube, etc. Explore and develop customer facing cloud solutions to improve application-side data analysis. Identify, design, develop, and support our build and development tools. Propose, implement, and support meaningful build and development metrics with baseline comparisons to capture and communicate systemic environment health over time. Build and support testing frameworks including unit, integration, and system tests. Manage our integration and delivery pipelines to maximize efficiency. Automate and streamline operations and processes. Trouble shoot and resolve issues in our dev, test, and production environments. Work within and support our Agile Scrum process as it pertains to tools and the build environment. Write and maintain clear process and tools documentation.

3+ years of experience in development operations and/or software engineering. Demonstrable contribution to a project/team’s AWS distributed build solution, i.e. the integration of CodeBuild within a build environment. Experience with using build automation tools such as Jenkins, Docker, Incredibuild, Nuget. Demonstrate a thorough understanding of testing frameworks for unit, integration, and system test. Experience in both Windows and Linux operating systems as they relate to build environments including powershell, bash, git. Understanding different build configurations such as Visual Studios, MSBuild, qt, cmake. Programming experience in a polyglot environment including C#, C++, Python, JavaScript, Groovy. Self-motivated and can work efficiently and with few distractions in a remote environment (home). Organized, detail oriented and proactive with an ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects. Excellent communicator as many of our interdisciplinary colleagues work on international teams over many time zones under many domain specialties.

Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrably strong problem-solving abilities. Experience in an Agile Scrum development process. Excellent communication skills (written/verbal)

Accredited BS/BA Degree, Engineering or Technical Field preferred.


Work onsite or remotely anywhere within the United States; but you must be available to work onsite for one to two weeks at a time. Option for future conversion to full time employee based on business needs. COVID-19 has changed the working landscape for us all but sometimes you still need to interact with the team to solve complex problems. This is a requirement of the job and is vital to our instrument development.

Employment will be contingent on clearing a drug screen and background check. Both must clear prior to start date.
