Applicant is responsible for the fabrication and assembly of precision-machined prototype hardware.
Machining of all standard metallic alloys, as well as ceramics, plastics, and carbon fibers when needed performed, with occasional projects involving exotic materials such as Invar, Inconel, Molybdenum, etc.
Applicant will use precision measuring tools when involved in shared inspection responsibilities for specification compliance of fabrications and assemblies produced by the shop.
Duties will also include participation in regular safety reviews of all group activities.
Performs daily and regular cleaning and light maintenance on machines and equipment.
Operate all manner of manual and computer controlled machine tools such as lathes, Milling Machines, Drill Press and grinders to fabricate precision metal, plastic, and composite parts.
Applicant must provide his/her own tools.

With a minimum of 5 years of precision machining experience and a thorough understanding of CNC and conventional machining procedures is required.
Must have a strong shop math background, able to read blueprints, interpret ANSI 714.5-1982 geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, must be able to work from rough sketches, and verbal instructions.
Must be capable of programming Computerized Numerically Controlled (CNC) machines using conversational programming, G-codes and Computer Aided Manufacturing (Mastercam) software.
Must be capable of independently performing their own machine set-ups on standard shop equipment including CNC and conventional mills, lathes and surface grinders.
Complete understanding of Machine Shop support equipment such cut-off saws, band saws, shears, belt sanders and pedestal polishing.
Read and interpret mechanical drawings / electronic files.
Ability to define problems collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Uses precision gages and measuring instruments to meet part tolerances as described on drawings.
Working understand of GEO-Metric dimensioning and tolerance.
Ability to write basic programs using machine controller or computer aided software such as Master-Cam.
A basic understanding Haas vertical milling machines with 4th and 5th Axis experience is desirable.

High School degree/GED is required.
Completed an accredited apprenticeship program such as the NTMA or college course equivalent is required.
