Description


Chipton-Ross is seeking a CNC Machinist for an opening in Huntsville, AL.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Sets up, operates and adjusts numerically controlled single or multiple tooling milling machines using all forms of control media, program documents, holding fixtures and cutting tools and/or by manually operating or entering any required data to machine to quality requirements, this includes new technology associated with equipment, as well as working with exotic materials and processes associated with day-to-day activities.
o Uses technical skills and abilities to work in Proto-type environments with limited supervision instructions or direction.
o Obtains information from drawings, documents, machine control media, sketches and verbal information with limited amount of supervision.
o Makes preparations and adjustment to ready machine for operation; included but not limited to, working with suppliers of new technology type mills and equipment.
o Makes adjustments during machining cycles and as authorized, install various types of cutting tools to obtain desired results.
o Uses precision measuring instruments, gauges and tools to dimensionally check cutting tools and/or parts for conformance to prints and specifications; as well as special or new technology associated with this task understand dimensioning and tolerancing per AUSI 414.5
o As required, assists planners or programmers to determine the final numeric control program; includes but not limited to, coordinating with suppliers of new technology type mills and equipment.
o Mounts and checks cutting tools in holders and properly hand load in magazine or spindles.
o Initiates requests for corrective action when malfunctions occur and detect faulty tools and take corrective action in conformance with shop practice and procedures.
o Loads, preludes and manually positions fixtures at designated program stops.
o Maintains licenses, permits and certifications required to perform assigned work.
o Performs other duties as assigned within general job classification.
This is a union represented position (IAMAW 2766)

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
o Experience working with detailed work instructions or reading and interpreting blueprints and drawings.
o More than 1 year of experience with 5-Axis & 3-Axis NC/CNC Milling Machine.
o More than 1 year of experience with metal parts numerical control (NC) programming.

PREFERRED DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
o More than 3 years of experience setting up and operating Conventional Lathes, Mills, Surface Grinders and Numerical Control (NC) equipment.
o More than 3 years of experience in setting and using precision measuring tools and equipment such as micrometers, calipers, and/or dial indicators.
o More than 3 years of experience setting up NC/CNC machines, including probing and using dial indicators to establish set points.
o Experience programming and editing NC/CNC controls using "G" codes.
o More than 3 years of experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances (GD&T).

EDUCATION:
Accredited High School Diploma or GED.
