Chipton Ross is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for a Direct Hire opportunity in Skaneateles, NY.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, reporting to the TCO (Technical Cost Out) manager, you will work within a dedicated cross-functional Lean focused team on cost saving projects. These projects will specifically focus on direct materials cost savings for all Hillrom’s Front Line Care product lines across multiple manufacturing sites.

The primary role of the position is focused specifically on design changes to medical devices and the subsequent testing required to implement the changes. While a successful candidate should have a very good understanding of mechanical engineering and Hillrom’s products and processes, this candidate will also be working in the following areas as part of the cross functional team:

Review and update design inputs and outputs

Execute mechanical design changes using Creo (Pro-E)

Work with suppliers on design changes and part qualification

QA / RA policies and regulations

Design Verification and Validation

Key Responsibilities:

Work on TCO projects with a focus on projects which require a high degree of mechanical engineering knowledge from prototyping though implementation of the project into operations.

Analyze, modify or create mechanical designs for TCO projects and prove the success of the designs against agreed / established specification using sound engineering principles and statistical analysis.

Develop test plans, protocols and reports for design changes related to your projects.

Work with the other TCO team members to coordinate project activities to ensure all required tasks are closed effectively and to agreed project timelines.

Preferred Background:

Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent.

4-7 years of mechanical engineering experience

Experience with Creo (Pro-E) and the SAP / Creo (Pro-E) interface

Ability to analyze, modify and create mechanical designs

Experience writing test procedures/protocols, conduct design reviews, design verification & validation plans (DVVP), detailed and accurate test reports.

Strong working knowledge of statistical analysis

Have applied experience in the following applications:

MS Word, Excel

SAP as it applied to TCO project activities

DIR, BOM, Routing, Q Routing, RIP’s creation / modification, BCR / ECR Process and MMDS

Working knowledge of Medical Device Design Controls

Familiarity with plastic injection molding; design for molding manufacturability and failure analysis

Familiarity with metals component design and the different types of metals & manufacturing (sheet metal, castings, turned & machined parts, etc.)

Flexible team player who is organized, dependable, proactive and with strong communication skills
