Tool Engineer, Tool Design

Chipton-Ross is seeking two Engineer Tool 2's for an opportunity in El Segundo, CA.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The selected candidate works with program management on industrial machinery and equipment, tools, dies, gauges, jigs, fixtures, and machine attachments required for production or experimental use, considering such factors as accessibility, economy, mobility, and performance requirements. Acts as tool integration focal and follows tooling proposals, cost estimates, master schedules, and acts as cost account manager focal for the department. Knowledge of tool manufacturing process is required for this role as well as tool inspection methods such as laser inspection.

A successful Principal Engineer Tool shall be able to understand the tool manufacturing process, create schedules and budgets as well as put proposals together. This person shall be able to conceptualize tool designs, and understand tool drawings for fabrication.

The Tool Engineer, while being the principle contributor and/or leader, shall work with internal/external customers, and colleagues to ensure that the tool fabrication meets the customer needs and see it through each phase of the productions process.

In addition, it is essential that this person have the ability to mentor less experienced engineers/technicians, work autonomously and in a team environment, adapt to processes and company policy while providing input or methods of process/design innovation.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
o Execute and prepare meetings with leadership including program management to status and provide project updates.
o Process tracking via Earned Value Management System (EVMS).
o Execution/Lead/Coordination of design and fabrication requirements for tools and fixtures with customers, both internal and external.
o Conduct root cause failure investigations and implement associated corrective actions.
o Lead and Assist Product Development Team with new product releases to ensure- manufacturability, validate process/technology.
o Responsible for tracking cost management aspects of program regarding tool manufacturing.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
o Bachelor's Degree with 5 years of experience in medium to large scale tooling fabrication and/or production fabrication including composites, metallic, coatings application, and/or production manufacturing operations OR Master's Degree with 3 years of experience OR 9 years of experience in lieu of a degree
Looking for a background in Assembly and/or Composite Tool Design with 5 years experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
o STEM Degree (Science, Technical, Engineering or Mathematical)
o Composite experience and process knowledge
o Tool inspection knowledge such as laser scanning and measuring
o Direct Aerospace Tooling experience
o Earned Value Management System Knowledge
o Direct experience in the application/use of GD&T in accordance with ASME 14.5

EDUCATION:
High school diploma/GED is required.
School must- accredited.

HOURS:
9/80, work week.
