Chipton-Ross is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for a contract opportunity in Carlsbad, CA.

The talented Mechanical Engineer will join a cross-functional engineering team designing instrumentation to aid in cutting-edge biological and medical research. You will work with team members and a variety of R&D staff for successful NPI projects with an emphasis on customer wants and needs.

Will be primary engineer to increase capacity on critical automated production line. Will work with and have support from internal engineering and project management teams to execute project. Will be required to analyze and identify improvements. Will be required to create and modify SolidWorks models. Will work closely with external vendors/suppliers. Lead efforts to install upgrades to machines. Will participate in the validation efforts of created upgrades. Understand and apply technical knowledge, theory and best practice as related to machine design, product development, component, subsystem design, and purchased part selection. Assigned duties may include design, detailing and test and troubleshooting of mechanical sub-systems and development of specific systems, modules, mechanisms or components to meet design requirements.

5 years’ experience in machine or product design, or related experience. 3D design software: Solidworks. Experience with creating detailed part drawings and rapid prototyping. MS Office tools. Ability to write draft Manufacturing Assembly Work Instructions and redline other project documentation as needed to prepare instrument for regulatory approval. Strong written and verbal communication skills, analytical and organizational skills. Experience in conceptualizing innovative and creative designs using strong analytical and problem solving skills. Operate hand and basic machine tools to assist in fabrication, testing, and troubleshooting of prototype hardware and assemblies. Strong experience with mechanical design of automated industrial automation. Hands on experience with pneumatics, actuators, Servos, PLC’s, safety, electrical controls and sensors. Ability to communicate effectively across technical disciplines. Ability to achieve technical design solutions with minimal oversight. Must be able to effectively manage time given multiple high-priority projects. Good troubleshooting skills. Proficient with SolidWorks. Strong general computer literacy. Previous Bio tech industry experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Sheet metal, machined, cast or molded part design for benchtop sized devices. Demonstrated ability for technical proficiency, creativity, problem solving skills, communication and task management.

Accredited BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience

First Shift

Employment will be contingent on clearing a drug screen and background check. Both must clear prior to start date.
