Description
Chipton-Ross is seeking a Scientist I for a contract opportunity in Carlsbad, CA.

SUMMARY:
You will work in a team based environment to manufacture and perform quality control assays/experiments on Drug Discovery Reagents (Kinases, Assay Components, and Finished Goods) for use in research and commercial scientific products for the life sciences industry. Manufacturing and QC processes are performed following controlled protocols and data is recorded on batch records following good documentation practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for manufacturing and qualification of product(s) in a lab setting following standard operating procedures. Will utilize basic laboratory techniques, calculations, materials measurement, operation of laboratory equipment and record keeping necessary to manufacture products. Will perform buffer preparation, column purification/ chromatography, SDS-Page Analysis, Western Blotting, and other protein characterization techniques. Will perform radioactive assays and analysis, TR-FRET assays, fluorescence based assays, and protein concentration assays. Responsible for Batch Data Records, notebooks, customer reports (as required) and work order documents. Utilize specialized technical knowledge and skills to make detailed observations and analyze data to ensure within operating parameters. Advise manager of factors that may affect quality of product. Maintain equipment, product inventories and related records as assigned. Note variances on manufacturing documents; audit and evaluate process documents and propose revisions. Complete, distribute and file records as required in accordance with Document Control Practices. Identify potential issues in a process; report findings to team management and participate in troubleshooting and resolution process. Assist with modifying technical documents which include standard operating procedures and manufacturing batch records. Participate in process improvement projects to reduce process scrap or improve productivity.

REQUIREMENTS:
A minimum of 1 year relevant experience demonstrating laboratory techniques in a manufacturing environment or research laboratory is highly preferred. (Protein purification experience, especially with AKTA, is a plus) Experience using basic laboratory equipment including, centrifuges, scales/balances, spectrophotometers, pipettes, pH and conductivity meters. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of basic scientific laboratory techniques, including Buffer Preparation, Gel Electrophoresis, Western Blotting, Determination of Protein and Nucleic Acid Concentration. Theoretical understanding of protein chemistry, chromatography methodology and techniques, including basic protein/resin interactions. Working knowledge of manufacturing related computer software (preferred) Intermediate Excel skills. Strong collaborative skills and the ability to influence others without authority. Must be able to work safely with chemicals and hazardous materials.

EDUCATION:
Accredited bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or other related discipline.

Full-Time
Mon-Fri First Shift

Employment will be contingent on clearing a drug screen and background check. Both must clear prior to start date.
