Chipton-Ross is seeking an Engineering Technician 2 for an opportunity in Newport News, VA.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks. Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes. Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics). Performs detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas; preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such areas as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency; and quantitative judgments concerning technical data. Uses personal computer in performance of analyses and development of documentation/reports. May conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
Associate's Degree and 1 year of experience. 2 years of related experience can be substituted for Associate's degree. 4 years of non-related experience can be substituted for Associate's degree. An Apprentice Certificate or graduation from Navy Nuclear Power School.

This task involves calculating lift weights and centers of gravity for new construction and in-service carrier crane lifts. Calculations are made both from 3D models and 2D drawings. Ship checks of the lifts are often required, especially for new-construction. Preferred qualifications include the ability to work with 3D models and data extractions, the ability to read and work with 2D drawings, and the ability to work with Excel Spreadsheets. Prior experience with Aircraft Carriers, either through service with the US Navy or in a shipyard setting, is a plus. A successful applicant will also have good computer skills, have an ability to learn and think through problems and processes, and will be able to both work well in a team and take ownership of assigned tasks


EDUCATION:
AA or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline. See requirements for equivalency.
School must be accredited.

HOURS:
5/40. This position is first shift, Monday - Friday, 6:00 am - 2:30 pm.

MISCELLANEOUS:

Employment will be contingent on clearing a drug screen and background check. Both must clear prior to start date.
