Chipton-Ross is seeking an Engineer Software Quality 1 for a contract opportunity in Elkton, MD.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops, modifies, applies, and maintains standards for software quality operating methods, processes, systems and procedures. Reviews software inspection, testing, verification and validation records. Implements software development and software maintenance processes and methods. Ensures measures meet acceptable reliability standards. Develops overall operating criteria to ensure implementation of the software quality program according to project, process and contract requirements and objectives. Ensures that project and process control documentation are compliant with requirements, objectives and/or contract. Reviews software design, change specifications, and plans against contractual and/or process requirements. Reviews include applicable specifications, materials, tools, techniques, and methodologies. Performs or directs verification of software requirement allocations, traceability, and testability. Trains and mentors other Quality Engineers, as needed. Assures Lessons Learned are captured in the electronic database
Job Responsibilities
o Establish and maintain Quality Assurance programs, procedures and controls ensuring that products and services conform to company standards of excellence for both software and hardware technologies.
o Support the development, implementation and maintenance of quality policy and procedures within the Quality Management System (QMS) including performing internal audits.
o Ensure compliance with contract program, quality, organizational, and industry requirements including flowing down internally and to suppliers and integrating into program plans, specifications and processes.
o Evaluate the software development Change Management and Change Control process for conformity to standards of the deliverable and non-deliverable software documentation and code.
o Using project approved templates and checklists, ensure only authorized changes are incorporated or implemented.
o Audit the Software Developmental Configuration and conduct Functional and Physical Configuration Audits (FCA/PCA).
o Conduct phase dependent transition audits of the software development processes, as required.
o Perform bi-directional requirements traceability, using DOORS or equivalent traceability tool.
o Conduct Software Safety assessments, as required.
o Interface with suppliers in the verification of product design, quality and reliability.
o Review practices, procedures and processes seeking avenues to improve efficiency and effectiveness and reduce risk to product quality.
o Provide oversight in discrepancy review and failure investigations, as well as cause and corrective action determinations. Analyze and interpret trends and executes improvements on key metrics.
o Perform Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) analysis, and Problem Solving activities on program-specific, quality system and business system deficiencies.
o Represent Quality/Mission Assurance at various program reviews and review boards.
o Ensure Risk Management activities (including Design/Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis dFMEA/pFMEA) are executed according to standards and procedures.
o Ensure knowledge transfer through training, mentoring, and management of lessons learned.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
o Requires Bachelor's degree in Computer Science plus 5 years' experience in a related field, Master's degree in Computer Science and 3 years' experience, or a PhD plus 0 years' experience.
o Application of technical expertise including complete understanding of fundamental engineering principles, practices, and theories.
o Able to read engineering documentation (drawings, models, specs) and interpret electrical schematics.
o Previous experience with Aerospace software standards such as DO-178B/C, CMMI, and IEEE.
o Experience with NASA standards NPR 7150.2A/2C, MSFC-STD-3663A. NASA-STD-1006A NASA-STD-8739.8/8A and NASA-STD-8719.13.
o Experience managing quality on complex mechanical propulsion systems for aerospace and defense applications; specifically with the ability to interpret drawing dimensions, requirements, and parts lists, develop inspection plans, and identify critical features (Examples include hypersonic, attitude control motor, and booster technologies).
o Previous experience managing/supporting elements of a Quality Management System such as AS or ISO.
o Intermediate to advanced computer skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to understand and work with multiple enterprise-wide systems.
o Knowledge of Root Cause and Corrective Action tools, such as Ishikawa, FMEA, DOE, KTA (Kepner Tregoe Analysis), 5Why, TIPQA, etc.
o Excellent written and oral communication skills and problem solving skills.
o Strong interpersonal skills and able to work well in a team environment.
o Self-starter with ability to work independently through complex technical problems towards an implementable solution.
o Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment and around explosive materials.
o Conformity evaluations of deliverable and non-deliverable software documentation and code products.
o Bi-directional traceability, upward and downward, for software requirements.
o Project level process compliance audits.
o Experience with Tool Accreditation.
o Experience with Static Analysis and Structural Coverage tools.
o Experience with Modeling and Simulation software.
PREFERRED:
o Accredited certification in a Software, Quality and/or Mission assurance field
o Experience writing, reviewing and/or testing embedded code
o Demonstrated process control and improvement experience and knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma or similar tools
o Familiarity with GD&T standards and inspection standards such as AMSE Y14_5-2009
o Familiarity with Electronic Parts / Components / Assemblies and ESD Classification Levels as defined and specified by S20.20
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science.
School must be accredited.
HOURS:
9/80 work week.
Employment will be contingent on clearing a drug screen and background check. Both must clear prior to start date.
