Chipton-Ross is seeking a Designer 3 for an opportunity in Newport News, VA.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM or CATIA. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. Exclude classifications in which incumbents predominantly perform drafting assignments.

Limited supervision. No instructions needed on routine work, and general instructions given on new lines of work or special assignments.

Typical Duties and Tasks
Duties & tasks are varied and moderately complex. Resolves most questions and problems, and refers complex questions to higher levels.

Consequence of Errors
Errors may be difficult to detect and would normally result in loss of customer business, material, or equipment to resolve.

Contacts
Contacts are frequent with individuals representing other departments, and/or representing outside organizations. Contacts involve obtaining or providing information or data on matters of moderate importance to the function of the department or which may be of sensitive nature.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
Associate's or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline and 3 years of related experience. **Candidates with ABET accredited Bachelor's degree will not be considered***
Associate’s Degree and 3 years of experience. 2 years of related experience can be substituted for Associate’s degree. 4 years of non-related experience can be substituted for Associate’s degree. An Apprentice Certificate or graduation from Navy Nuclear Power School can be substituted for Associate’s degree.

Equivalency: Associate’s Degree and 3 years of experience. 2 years of related experience can be substituted for Associate’s degree. 4 years of non-related experience can be substituted for Associate’s degree. An Apprentice Certificate or graduation from Navy Nuclear Power School can be substituted for Associate’s degree.

This position is for an electrical designer within department E63 – Aircraft Carrier Electrical Engineering. The candidate may work within any E63 discipline, and will be familiar with some or all of the following disciplines: 4160/450V/120V power/lighting generation and distribution, IC circuits (alarms, lighting, machinery control, networks, navigation, fiber optic plant, or combat systems), Compartment Arrangements and Compartment outfitting/design, or wireways. The ideal candidate will also have experience with some or all of the following skills: shipchecking, AutoCAD drafting, performing basic technical calculations, resolving waterfront problems, electrical work methods, the overall carrier RCOH process, and general aircraft carrier system operational knowledge

Familiar with electrical systems
Familiar with AutoCAD

Required PPE Ear Muffs, Hard Hat, Safety Glasses, Steel Toe Boots

EDUCATION:
Associates Degree is required.
School must be accredited.

HOURS:
5/40 workweek. 7:30 - 4

MISCELLANEOUS:
