Chipton-Ross is seeking an Engineering Aide III for a contract opportunity in Orlando, FL.
This position is 100% onsite.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The position is a hands-on hardware-focused engineering technician located within the TLS Materials Science Labs. The overall primary job responsibility is the mechanical, chemical, and metallurgical evaluation of aerospace-grade materials, prototype parts and assemblies, and production parts and assemblies in support of internal customers for research and development projects and contracted programs. Many of the tasks will be to determine root cause for failure analysis investigations. Requested tasks are verified and evaluated with the test requester and senior lab personnel and scheduled in an environment where there are often competing and conflicting needs to be resolved. When necessary to conduct the request, new testing methods are evaluated and standard processes developed. The test results are reported, reviewed as required with the supervisor or manager, and then communicated to the customer. As part of the task the ability to coordinate and team with other groups will be required. The position reports to the Materials Science Labs Lab Group Manager, within Engineering and Technology.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
Familiar with advanced laboratory equipment such as: optical microscopes, hardness testers, and fractographic saws and polishers.
Capable of developing and documenting new standard laboratory processes.
Capable of scheduling, de-conflicting, coordinating and executing multiple technical activities concurrently.
Very proficient in computing within a Windows-based MS Office-suite centered environment for communication, scheduling, data processing, basic data transfer, and project documentation.
Demonstrated sound writing and verbal communication skills.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Working knowledge of materials/metallurgical concepts such as material microstructures, fracture toughness, different classes of metallic alloys such as stainless steels, aluminum alloys, titanium, etc.
Working knowledge of a variety of laboratory testing techniques such as SEM/EDS, optical microscopy, micro hardness testing, laser confocal microscopy, etc.
Working knowledge of standard metallographic mounting and sectioning techniques.
Excellent detail-oriented analysis and problem solving skills; demonstrated experience utilizing multiple analytical techniques to solve a materials related question or failure analysis.
Familiarity with ASTM specifications related to metallurgical testing and mechanical testing of materials.
Able to correctly interpret and apply GD&T (Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing) standards.
EDUCATION:
Accredited Associate's Degree with 2 years of experience, with demonstrated interest in hands-on testing and evaluation of materials and assemblies in a Laboratory environment.
BS degree in Materials Science and Engineering with 5 years' experience, with emphasis on metallurgy, failure analysis, and mechanical testing of materials.

4/10 work schedule
