Chipton-Ross is seeking one Technical Editor 3 for a contract opportunity in Linthicum, MD.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Edit technical documents to ensure compliance with spelling, grammar and punctuation, style, layout and specification requirements.
o Collaborate with task/team leads, writers, engineers, and instructors, to publish and deliver documents.
o Develop templates based on style guides to adhere to military specifications and standards of technical writing.
o Perform Desktop Publishing tasks for all program technical data products and publish materials in hardcopy and electronic formats.
Writes, rewrites and/or edits technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences. Acquires subject knowledge by interviewing product developers, observing performance of production methods, referring to technical specifications, blueprints, engineering illustrations, and trade journals. Oversees preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts. Conducts quality review of materials.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
Basic Qualifications for level 2:
o Bachelor's Degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field, 2-5 years' technical editing experience.
o Minimum 1-2 years' experience in creating and modifying templates, style sheets, and formats.
o Experience with structured (HTML, SGML, or XML, and S1000 or DITA) content.
o Excellent attention to detail.
o Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
o Knowledge of Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE 100) specification.
o Self-motivated with good problem solving and organization skills.
Basic Qualifications for level 3:
o Bachelor's Degree in English, Journalism, Communications or related field, 5-10 years' technical editing experience, 3 years' experience with Master's.
o Minimum 5 years' experience in creating and modifying templates, style sheets, and formats.
o Minimum of 5 years' experience editing page-based and structured (HTML, SGML, and XML, and S1000 and DITA) content.
o Excellent attention to detail.
o Experience with structured technical data.
o Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
o Excellent problem solving and organization skills.
PREFERRED:
o Minimum of 2 years' experience with structured authoring applications, such as: MadCap, FrameMaker, or Arbortext.
o Experience with Simplified Technical English (ASD-STE 100).
o Member of the Society for Technical Communicators (STC).
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's Degree is required.
School must be accredited.
HOURS:
9/80 workweek. 100% On-Site.
MISCELLANEOUS:

Employment will be contingent on clearing a drug screen and background check. Both must clear prior to start date.
