Job Description
Job #220390Chipton-Ross is seeking a Software Engineer for a contract/hybrid opportunity in Orlando, FL.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE)
Candidates must possess at least 5 years of working experience.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Put your software and integration experience to work on the engineering challenges that make helicopter training simulations realistic and responsive. We are seeking L4 Software Engineers to support an IRAD team developing and evaluating next-generation rotary-wing training capabilities for MH-60R/CG and CH-53K use cases. These roles offer hands-on work at the intersection of real-time software, simulator hardware and test, where strong troubleshooting and thoughtful engineering decisions help bring individual capabilities together into an integrated training experience.
You will contribute to software development, integration and evaluation across simulation components and their interfaces. Work may include modern C++ development, code review, debugging, performance optimization and maintainable implementation, as well as investigation of timing, concurrency, networking and deterministic behavior in real-time or distributed simulation. You will work with software, systems and integration/test engineers and engage with training-domain specialists to understand expected behavior and evaluate technical results.
A central focus is hardware/software integration and test: developing and executing test procedures, investigating defects, resolving integration issues, supporting regression testing and assembling verification evidence. You may integrate cockpit I/O, displays, audio, control-loading or motion systems, instructor/operator stations and avionics interfaces. Python scripting, test automation and data analysis can help you investigate behavior and make testing more repeatable.
The two openings have complementary emphases. One supports MH-60R/CG integration, test and demonstrations, with a focus that includes real-time simulation, Python/AI-assisted development and simulator-qualification activities. The other supports CH-53K integration, test and demonstrations, emphasizing C++ development, real-time/distributed simulation and simulator hardware integration. Qualification-related work may include objective testing, Qualification Test Guide development and execution, validation, discrepancy management and recurrent-evaluation support.
We are interested in engineers who bring depth in integration and test, real-time software or simulator interfaces, supported by clear technical communication and the ability to work through complex problems. Relevant strengths include C++, Python, multithreading, timing and performance analysis, networking, TCP/UDP, DIS/HLA interoperability, hardware I/O, regression testing and software verification. Experience with FAA Part 60, EASA CS-FSTD(A)/CS-FSTD(H) or simulator qualification is especially relevant to the qualification-focused opening.
Rotorcraft operations, pilot training, aircraft systems or aircraft survivability equipment knowledge would be valuable. We also welcome engineers who learn quickly, work effectively with subject-matter experts and use AI-assisted tools responsibly while independently validating results. You do not need every capability listed: the team is looking for complementary technical strengths and a willingness to build expertise in adjacent areas.
REQUIRED EDUCATION
Accredited Bachelor's Degree.
