Welding Project Leader 2

Chipton-Ross is seeking multiple Welding Project Leader 2's for a contract opportunity in Newport News, VA.

• This job requires a high school graduate, or equivalent, with a minimum of eight years production welding experience.
• A candidate must have knowledge of ship construction methods, welding processes and equipment, and applicable welding and quality procedures.
• In addition, a candidate must have excellent communication skills.
• Required PPE:
• Steel or composite toes shoes or boots (must cover the ankle)
• Hard hat (fiberglass is what we use due to support hot work production areas)
• Ear muffs
• Safety glasses (ANSI approved, side shields if prescription)
• Recommend the following since he will be supporting production areas with hot work:
• Long sleeve cotton shirt
• Cotton pants in good condition (no holes)
• Gloves

• Expedites the implementation of productivity and quality improvements in welding operations.
• Coordinates assigned projects from initiation through implementation, which may require initiation and coordination of equipment purchases/testing/modification, training program development, design changes, etc.
• Provides technical and hands-on assistance to Trades personnel in the implementation of automatic systems and new materials introductions.
• Assists in job planning, equipment set-up and the troubleshooting of problems incurred during implementation.
• May coordinate and expedite the movement of needed equipment and materials, and provision of required services.
• May function as a liaison between the Trades and other Company functions, such as Welding Engineering, Design, etc., to coordinate the resolution of technical problems.
• Serves as liaison and helps facilitate communication between Engineers and Production team.
• Inspects weld quality of production team.
• Evaluates welding processes and advises production team and engineers on areas of improvement such as: Efficiency, Quality, Safety, Technique, Monitoring consumables.
• Tracking Quality Metrics. Responsible for notifying Engineer of quality concerns.

• An NNS Apprentice graduate and experience in the operation of automatic welding processes is preferred.

High school diploma is required.

School must be accredited.

5/40 workweek. 6:00AM-2:30PM.
